The Voices (2015)

The Voices poster

Company loner whose pets talk to him kills the officer worker who turns him down for a date and … he is revealed to be a paranoid schizophrenic who killed his mother and is seeing a psychiatrist whose counselling clearly is not working without those meds. And then he falls for someone else … What starts out as a very black comedy turns into something very sick and quite gruesome. The humour is dissipated almost in its entirety by the shifts in both content and tone. This was directed by Iranian Marjane Satrapi whose comic book Persepolis was a widely lauded animation. The fact that I am a committed aiurophile doesn’t help – making his cat a satanic Scots was a step too far. Yeeuch.
